Different Database?

Is it possible to configure the component to store data in a different database as we need the data synced between 2 sites?

From my perspective, there is no configuration to do this. However, since you are building your own component, you "own" the code and can freely edit the table and model files. It is in the model and table files where you can add some code that will work with other database tables. So programmatically, one should be able to do that; but as an out-of-the-box configuration, I don't see that.
